The Best Seat in the House

Avery has a new favorite activity!  She will sit and look out of her nursery window for really long stretches of time while happily chatting to herself.  Or, as we like to call it, spying on the neighbors.

Six Months

Oh Avery, you've gone and done it again... another month older!  And this time you've made it to half a year.  This is such a fun time, and we are soaking in every minute of your squeals and smiles and crazy antics (even your fussiness... it won't be too much longer until you leave the non-verbal world for good!)

Here are your stats from your 6 month and 1 day doctor's appointment:

Height: 28inches (99th percentile)
Weight: 19lbs 2oz (93rd percentile)

Seriously, you can take it easy on the growing ANY TIME now.  Your current "projected height" is 5'11".  Your father, who is now 6'5", was 28" tall when he was NINE months old.  So, yes, you are a baby giant.  You are also healthy and thriving and absolutely adorable and all of those good things, so we're not complaining!

This month you have been positively bursting with life and energy.  The milestones were coming fast and furious:
  • Sitting up unassisted and being able to reach and grab from the sitting position
  • Scooting backwards while on your stomach
  • Passing objects from hand to hand
  • Babbling and repeating consonants (your favorites are dadada and gagaga... but we've had a few extra "mamama" tutoring sessions)
  • Solid foods (oatmeal cereal, peas, sweet potatoes)

You enjoy putting on some pretty amazing concerts for us, complete with singing (we I think you might be a musical genius)

You're super serious about your craft, so sometimes the pieces are pretty intense:

You recently discovered the cats...

And they make you all tremble-y / drool-y with happiness.

And the best part is, I have been able to see all of this happening first hand since I quit my job in the middle of January, and won't start the new one until the end of February.  So you and I have been able to spend some super awesome quality time together doing important, educational things, like watching House Hunters International and going to Target.  Going back to work is going to be rough, not going to lie, but I'm hoping that by taking this leap I'll be setting a good example for you to not let fear hold you back in life, and to trust that God will take care of you and has a plan for you that does not involve crying every day on your way to / from work.

You are generally a happy baby, though I think you might start teething soon, as you get randomly fussy and are gnawing / drooling on everything.

Now that you can sit up on your own and roll every which way, your tolerance for being held is waning quickly.  You are not at all a snuggley baby, and even trying to soothe you to sleep has been giving me a bicep work out as I try to contain your wiggly-strength-of-10,000-normal-babies-self.  While the end of the snuggles (for now) definitely makes me sad, I love that you are growing into your own person and gaining physical / mental strength.

Plus, you can still make our hearts literally melt with the bat of one of your super-long eyelashes.

Whatever you do, never ever ever stop being you, gorgeous girl.  You are perfect just the way you are.  Love you always and forever.

Food Glorious Food

We have been experimenting with solid food for Avery for a bit now.  Until recently she hasn't shown too much interest, so we weren't pushing it, just offering a bit now and then.  I figured the easiest way is to let Avery tell you about it herself.

"Oatmeal cereal... I love it, I love it, I love it!"

"More!!!!... Please"
"I'll just show you how this is done..."

"No, this isn't quite right, is it?"

"You just... go... in... there... "

"I will own you, spoon!!"

(And no, that's not a Christmas tree... when you leave it up that long it becomes a Valentine's bush.  Fact.)

"Ummm... the peas... not so much."

"How about some more of that oatmeal deliciousness?  Maybe?  Please?  I promise to sleep until at least 5am."
